College Overview:
The Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media (IIJNM) is one of South Asia's leading post-graduate schools of journalism and media. Located in Bangalore in the heart of India's high-tech industry, the institute offers an excellent curriculum that combines both theory and practice to prepare its graduates for positions in the media industry.
With increasing opportunities for employment in the media profession, journalism today is a preferred career choice. As an independent institution not affiliated with or run by any one newspaper or media organization, IIJNM is able to maintain wider association within the industry. With assistance from the college placement department, our students have access to most media organizations for employment opportunities. In the past, practically all our graduates have received one or more job offers from media related organizations at attractive salaries.
Course Details:
IIJNM offers a curriculum developed in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York. Its programs in print, web, television, radio and multimedia journalism embody the best practices in media industry and media technology. Today, the institute is regarded by many in the media community as among the best in journalism study in all of South Asia.
Both diploma programs offered in two semesters over a year emphasize practical training in addition to important theory. This is accomplished by covering news at least twice every week in Bangalore city and surrounding rural areas. Students learn to use advanced media equipment, and work with sophisticated editing software for text, image, sound and video to publish newspapers, magazines, TV and radio programs, and on-line multimedia news presentations.
All these are carried out under the guidance of Indian and foreign veteran journalist faculty who are complemented by guest lecturers from the media industry. Further, students get the opportunity to intern at media organizations for two weeks to a month. In summary, by the time the academic year ends, the graduating class is ready to hit the road running in their chosen fields - an unmatched experience among media education institutions for motivated students.
Short Term Courses:
In addition to one-year post-graduate and graduate programs offered, IIJNM School of Continuing Education runs short term weekend courses as well as 6-month on-line programs for those who wish to develop/enhance their skills in selected areas of business and journalism.
